We Love You Judith

In Remembrance of Judith Linkewich

Judith passed away peacefully into God's eternal care on December 9th, 2009 at the age of 76 in Edmonton, Alberta, after a valiant battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents, Eduard and Hildegard, she is lovingly remembered by her family, children Pamela and Zach (Darlene) and grandchildren Ben, Ashley and Brandon as well as by her siblings Roy (Barb), John, and Jean (Ray), and by relatives in Canada, the USA and Switzerland. Judith cherished and enjoyed the company of her many friends of all ages and walks of life, who also miss her dearly. Born in Wangen bei Olten, Switzerland, she came to homestead with her family in rural Sylvan Lake. Later marrying her RCAF husband, Al (Linc), she settled in Red Deer, where she worked tirelessly alongside father as he, partnering with the Boomer Brothers, conceived of and built the (Silver) Canyon Ski Area, which they managed and developed for nearly 20 years. Summit Ski and Sport shop was also born during this time, which for over two decades Judith managed, helping thousands to ski and to enjoy the great outdoors. Skiing thus became one of her many passions, and her skills, zest and humour were greatly appreciated at ski races and other events. As a lifelong reader, learner and teacher, she  was proud to achieve her Alpine Skiing Technical Delegate certification. Dramatic and sociable, Judith also gravitated easily to live theatre, dancing, tennis, and to the many social functions which she organized. Starting life over again in her 50's, she moved to Edmonton and quickly made many wonderful friends there. An accomplished speaker, competitor, coach, and judge, she found great joy in participating in Toastmasters as well as in the Excellence Series, and in helping many, body and soul, through her work at her clinic. A tremendous inspiration and mentor to so many, Judith lived her life with passion, integrity and style.

Judy Vollweiter

In Remembrance of

Judy Vollweiter

In 1988 Judy Vollweiter took the Excellence Series.

At a Context car rally in 1990 she met Brad Breakell, who also completed the Series.  They married in 2002. Together they travelled to Phoenix, Toronto, Salt Lake City and California.  While living in California Judy became an ordained Minister for the Church of Religious Science.

Once their family was complete with 4 children, a dog, a cat, fish, and Judy's mom along for the ride they ventured off to Boise, Idaho.

After taking a break from the restaurant industry, Brad, who trained at NAIT Culinary Arts, decided to get back to the restaurant industry but this time Judy and Brad opened their own business.

They worked many long and hard hours.  In March of this year The Food Network came to film their restaurant.  They will be featured on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives featuring Guy Fieri.  The shows will be aired October 12, 2009. Please check the local listings for times.  The show will be titled:
Barbequed, Baked, and Brined.

Judy had cancer when she was 18 and fought hard to become strong, vowing never to have cancer again.  However, sadly very shortly after they taped the show Judy was battling cancer once again. Judy fought until the last minute, passing away on April 24, 2009.

You can visit their website at
www.pizzalchik.com  Her sister Liz (who also took the series) can also be reached at bl.lewis@telus.net

The restaurant that Judy and her husband Brad Breakell started in the U.S. was scheduled to be featured on The Food Network on Oct. 12th.  Judy says it shows "on the web" but is not in her TV guide.
